About us

We are formed from an IT specialist, AtomGate. Our aim is to improve the lives of well-deserving, up-and coming young black South Africans who’ve shown that they have some entrepreneurial flair and a passion for all things IT. Our approach is organic and long-term, and we plan to create sustainable IT business that will shape the future of our young entrepreneurs and the communities that they will affect for the rest of their lives.

With funding received from generous donors and corporates in the ICT space and beyond, Atom Foundation seeks out and identifies candidates that have skills and the potential to excel in the ICT arena. We look for candidates who have already begun pursuing an education and are seeking experience and mentorship in the sector. We work with and mentors’ candidates up to a point where they can manage and run successful IT businesses on their own, while adding value to the communities they serve. The foundation set up businesses for candidates while majority of the initial shareholding remains within the foundation to assist the next candidates.

Atom Foundation also facilitates Socio-Economic Development, Enterprise Development, Supplier Development and Skills Development projects on behalf of sponsors in the aim of securing new IT business opportunities for new IT enterprises. Income generated is then used to fund new opportunities and create sustainable business models. We believe in “giving a man a rod and teaching him to fish” as opposed to “giving him a fish”. Success is hard earned, and passion is to see successful young businessmen and women entering the ICT spaces and changing the future for generations to come!

We are true to ourselves, and commit to always perform at our best.

Mission

To create a platform to identify and grow IT business leaders. To add value to the community through IT partnerships that facilitate IT awareness and skill. Creation of entrepreneurship opportunities using IT tools for lasting solutions to poverty and unemployment.

Frequently asked questions

With funding received from generous donors and corporates in the ICT space and beyond (we accept funding from anyone – our projects are IT driven), Atom Foundation seeks out and identifies candidates that have skills and the potential to excel in the ICT arena. We look for individuals who have already begun pursuing an education and are seeking experience in the sector. We take these individuals on and place them in real jobs, doing real IT related work (website design & related services, network and security related services, Enterprise Development project implementation on behalf of sponsors, systems and process design and implementation, etc).

Income generated from these new IT businesses will be used to fund new
opportunities and create sustainable business models. Skilled young IT entrepreneurs will be given a foot into the market, the opportunity
to make it for themselves and at the same time improve the lives of others. We believe in
“giving a man a rod and teaching him to fish” as apposed to “giving him a fish”. Success is hard-earned, and our passion is to see successful young businessmen and women entering the ICT space and changing the future for generations to come!

Atom Foundation is facilitator of B-BBEE Enterprise Development, Supplier
Development and Socio-Economic Development projects. We manage and
maintain compliance with these elements of the BEE Codes on behalf of our
donors and ensure that they receive the due benefit for their investments when it comesto verification.

We are adamant that B-BBEE funding must have measurable and tangible results; that beneficiaries must be identifiable, verifiable and must have duly benefitted from the contributions received whilst at the same time being held accountable for what they do with what they get… We absolutely want to see our beneficiaries showing improvement and success both operationally and financially as a result of the benefits received via Atom Foundation. We want to ensure that the objectives of the BEE Codes and Act are realised in a meaningful way by facilitating long term and sustainable access to the economy for all of our recipients.

In the case of Supplier Development: We work with donors on a one-to-one basis to identify the relevant budgets, projects, beneficiaries (black owned suppliers) and outcomes with the objective of improving the performance of the beneficiary organisation(s) to the benefit of the buying organisation (i.e. improving service and support in the value chain of the donor).

At the same time, we utilise part of the funding to empower our own staff (junior developers and project engineers) to work on these Supplier Development projects and gain the necessary experience to eventually manage their own IT businesses.
